Poetry and Place with Simon Armitage and Hanan Issa

We are very pleased to welcome Simon Robert Armitage, playwright, novelist and British Poet Laureate, and Hanan Issa, National Poet of Wales, to Gladstone's Library. 

The two poets will deliver an hour-long reading themed around poetry and place
 at Gladstone’s Library on Thursday 23rd March from 2pm to 3pm.

Tickets are free (but for processing purposes have to be set to one penny as a token payment). As a charity, we reply on public support so we hope that those who book will consider donating to support our work with readers and writers. The suggested donation is £10 per person, which would help us to maintain our Grade 1 listed building and keep our collections accessible to all.

This event is part of Simon's library ongoing library tour, which sees the Poet Laureate appear at libraries across the UK in alphabetical order. Gladstone’s Library has been selected as one of his stops during 2023, when he is exploring libraries whose names or locations begin with the letters E, F or G. Simon Armitage has published more than 30 books of poetry, novels, non-fiction works and drama over a career that has so far spanned four decades. One of his most recent works was Tribute, a trio of commemorative poems published following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.Hanan Issa is a Welsh-Iraqi poet and writer based in Cardiff. Her publications include her poetry collection My Body Can House Two Hearts and Welsh Plural: Essays on the Future of Wales. She was the recipient of the 2020 Ffilm Cymru/ BBC Wales commission for her short film The Golden Apple. She is also the Hay International Fellow. 

This event takes place at 2pm to 3pm in the Gladstone’s Library Reading Rooms
Booking is essential. The advisory age is 15+ as there may be strong language. Tickets are limited - you can secure up to four seats. Attendance is in-person only.
