“What if joy, instead of refuge or relief from heartbreak, is what effloresces from us as we help each other carry our heartbreaks?” - Ross Gay

Join award-winning poet Liz Berry (The Home Child) for a day masterclass on reading and writing joy. A key focus of the day will be ‘joy’ and how poetry (both reading it and writing it) is a source of personal and collective joy and resistance in challenging times.

Participants will draw on poems by diverse poets including Mary Oliver, Lucille Clifton, Tuvia Reubner and William Blake, sharing swift playful exercises to sew the seeds for new work, and allowing space for thought and discussion.

The Masterclass leader is Liz Berry, an experienced and nurturing teacher who regularly runs workshops for writers of all ages, stages and backgrounds. She enjoys working with those who are new to poems or writing, and prides herself on creating sessions full of playful practice where students feel supported and inspired.
