Do you have a story sitting inside you? Perhaps you have a pile of poetry hidden in a drawer, or a maybe a memoir poised for publication.

All realistic writers know the publishing industry is a tough place to break into. But there is another way: self-publishing is becoming more and more accessible, and millions of authors are turning to this option to share their writing with the world.

Some writers are ambitious, hoping to hit bestseller lists, others simply want a small print run they can share with family and friends and treasure for themselves.

If either of these sounds like you, but you find the process of self-publishing intimidating or baffling, you are very welcome to join Gladstone’s Library team member and self-pubbed author Rhian Waller.

Rhian, who has a background in features journalism, and has a credits list of traditionally published short stories, poems and academic articles, turned to self-publishing to raise funds for an anti-landmine charity by publishing children’s books.

During her session, she will take attendees through the stages of planning, self-editing, designing, formatting and finally publishing an e-book – and put these things into practice. The skills discussed are useful for print-on-demand and for print shop produced self published books.

From 10am to 12 noon and 1pm to 3pm, participants are encouraged to contribute to a book that will be published and released online by the class. Please note: workshop content is identical to the sell-out class delivered in May 2023.
