My Ladys Soul: The Poetry of Elizabeth Siddall

Elizabeth Siddall is best known as the muse and model for many Pre-Raphaelite artists and as the wife of Dante Gabriel Rossetti. However, she was also an artist and a poet. Serena Trowbridge joins us at Gladstone's Library to talk about her new book My Ladys Soul: The Poems of Elizabeth Eleanor Siddall. To complete this book Serena has undertaken extensive archival research to restore Siddall’s better-known poems – often heavily edited in previous publications – to their original form, and to identify and reproduce poems and fragments not previously included in anthologies. Elizabeth Siddall’s own voice emerges fully from these pages, supporting her rediscovery as a creative artist in her own right.

Serena Trowbridge has taught at the University of Worcester and Birmingham City University. She is the editor of the journal of The Pre-Raphaelite Society, a member of the committee of the Midlands Interdisciplinary Victorian Studies Seminars (MIVSS), and a trustee of the Birmingham Midland Institute.

Tickets are priced at £12 or £23.95 with dinner (2 courses, including tea / coffee).
