Latin Second Steps
Aimed at those who have completed our Latin in a Week course or who have knowledge of Latin to GCSE standard (or higher). Read and understand extracts from the poets and prose writers of Classical Latin literature. Be guided through the scansion of Latin verse and some basic metres, and study selections chosen from such authors as Caesar, Cicero, Livy, Sallust, Tacitus, Pliny’s Letters (prose), Catullus, Horace, Ovid, Propertius, Vergil (poetry) and Juvenal (satires).
Hattie Ajderian studied Literae Humaniores at St Hilda’s, Oxford and is a veteran of the Latin courses at Gladstone’s Library. From 2003 - 2007 Hattie was a member of Bath & NE Somerset Council and she worked as a youth worker between 2007 and 2011.
Angela Collins is a member of the Classical Association and has been a seasoned Latin in a Week and Latin Second Steps attendee. Angela regularly organises informal Latin reading weekends at Gladstone’s Library.
