Endeavours, Enlightenment, Exploration - An evening with Peter Moore
7.30pm for 8pm
In April 1770, HMS Endeavour became the first European ship to reach the east coast of Australia when James Cook landed at Botany Bay. This formed part of Cook’s first voyage of discovery (1768 - 1771), commissioned by King George III and journeying around New Zealand, only narrowly avoiding shipwreck on the Great Barrier Reef.
Join Peter Moore as he discusses Cook’s voyages of exploration in the South Seas and considers this notorious ship in its context of the period of
enlightenment.
