Update from Gladstone's Library regarding Covid-19, Coronavirus

by |

Due to the escalation of the situation with Covid-19 Coronavirus and in line with government recommendations, reluctantly we have had to take the decision to close our doors to the public. We have done this because the safety of our staff and visitors is paramount to us. Our aim is to open again in March 2021.

We have had many discussions about how to support our users, our friends and our wonderful Gladstone’s community at this difficult time.

We remain positive and of course creative!

While our building may be closed, we want to keep our community of local people, scholars, writers and book lovers at Gladstone’s together. Our creative juices are flowing and we will be in touch shortly with details of new online activities so you can still be part of our fantastic library!

In the short term, we will be in touch if you have an accommodation, restaurant or conference booking before the end of May. We are also reviewing all our events up until the end of May and we are working with our presenters to establish whether we will cancel events or, where possible, we will get alternative dates and postpone instead to avoid disappointment. There is no need to contact us and we will be in touch with anyone who has booked tickets for any events that are cancelled or postponed to let them know how we are moving forward.

We have also cancelled any non-essential events such as our Library Glimpses but look out for digital ‘glimpses’ of the Library on our social media!

We are a not-for-profit, charitable organization and we need your support now more than ever. You can support us at this time by:

On behalf of the staff team and Trustees, we would like to say thank you for your unwavering support over the last few days and weeks. Thanks also for your positivity and kind messages at what is a very challenging time for this institution.

Be kind to each other, look after each other and in return we will keep the desks sparkling and polished, ready for the return of our readers.

All the best, The Gladstone’s Team.
