We are saddened to share the news of the death of playwright Oliver Emanuel, who was Writer in Residence here in March 2019.
Oliver meant a great deal to everyone here, not only the staff; we have received messages from those of you who attended his talks (including at Gladfest), learned in his masterclasses, or simply fell into conversation with him during the course of the times he spent here.
As your messages show, Oliver wasn’t just a remarkable playwright and gifted writer, but a wonderful, generous human with an unrivalled ability to connect with others. We invite you to explore his reflections on life and writing, and on the value of libraries.
We know that everyone in the Gladstone’s Library community will join us in remembering Oliver.
